YUPventure: Hike to Hidden Cabin & Explore Naples!

October 28, 2023 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

New, rescheduled date: Saturday, October 28th

>>Click here for complete details & tickets

We’ll start the day off with a moderate 2-3 mile hike in the Wesley Hill Nature Preserve to the Wenrich Cabin. The cabin was built by nationally known artist John Wenrich in 1926 as a place of respite and contemplation. For years, the cabin has sat unused and unmaintained. The Landmark Society included it in their 2023 Five to Revive list to draw attention to this rapidly deteriorating but magical place.

Pack a lunch–we’ll stop about halfway through the hike to take in the view.

After the hike, we’ll head into town for behind-the-scenes tours of two Naples landmarks: the 1794 Federal style Cleveland House (operated by the Naples Historical Society) and the 1965 St. Januarius Church, designed by James Johnson (architect of the famed Mushroom House).

We’ll cap off the day with a few drinks at Engine 14 Brewery.

Interested in carpooling to the preserve from Rochester? Meet at 9:00 AM in the parking lot at The Landmark Society’s offices at Warner Castle in Highland Park (5 Castle Park, off of Reservoir or Mt. Hope).

The Young Urban Preservationists (YUPs for short), an affiliate group of The Landmark Society, are an emerging generation of preservationists in the greater Rochester region dedicated to promoting inclusive, modern, and innovative preservation practices to help revitalize communities and our built environment. And we have fun doing it!

The Naples Historical Society promotes an interest in the history of Naples, New York and the surrounding area by maintaining and displaying historical collections and exhibits, and by providing educational programs.
