Deadline extended for conference session proposals

Submit your projects and ideas for the 2022 NY Statewide Preservation Conference by Monday, 4/18!

We are now accepting proposals for educational sessions at the NY Statewide Preservation Conference! The Conference will take place in person in Syracuse, NY, September 22-24.

Priority topics for 2022 will fall under the broad concept of this year’s theme: Shifting Landscapes. Priorities include:

• Topics that address all types of cultural/historic landscapes, including the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Law Olmsted.
• Topics that address how cultural landscapes and/or preservation can encourage equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in our communities.
• Topics that address the shifting landscapes (whether due to COVID-19, climate change, real estate markets, the economy, etc.) in which we practice preservation.
• Topics that address the shifting nature, definition, expanded audiences, and practice of historic preservation, both as a professional field and grassroots movement.

You do not need to be a preservation professional to share your story. Whether you are a grassroots community activist, an urban planner, a non-profit organization, an architect, a neighborhood group, a developer, property owner, or a municipality, we want to hear from you! We are looking for a diverse range of topics that include everything from neighborhood advocacy and small town revitalization to complex tax credit rehab projects and place-based event planning.

Proposals are due by Monday, April 18th at midnight.

Frederick Law Olmsted’s 200th Birthday

Celebrate the founder of American landscape architecture, author, and conservationist Frederick Law Olmsted. This year, organizations across the country are celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth in 1822. Visit olmsted200.org to learn more about Olmsted and his legacy, and the Highland Park Conservancy for information about local events commemorating his birthday.

Apply to be a vendor at OCTavern Festival

A celebration of all things autumnal, the second annual OCTavern Festival will take place at the Stone-Tolan Historic Site in Brighton, New York. On Saturday, October 15th, the house and its 215-year-old rural tavern will host small groups of guests who will enjoy live music, cider, beer, and seasonal fare. We’ll also have a site-wide celebration on the beautiful grounds of the property, with local farmers, food vendors, and craftspeople providing demonstrations and items for purchase.

Applications are now available for 2022 food and artisan vendors, and sponsorship opportunities are available. Vendor applications are due May 31st.

Architecture in the Wild is back

The Young Urban Preservationists’ popular Architecture in the Wild walking tours are back at the Rochester Brainery. They’ll be offering two classes per month May through October but don’t wait to register because these classes always sell out!
