The Landmark Society is hiring!

We are seeking a talented Communications Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating compelling promotional and educational content for our website and various social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. The Communications Coordinator will collaborate closely with Landmark Society staff to develop content that effectively promotes our events and initiatives, engaging our audience and building our online presence. This position reports to the Director of Preservation Outreach and will work directly with other department heads and staff members.

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for assessing, planning, and executing the organization’s social media presence; producing the semi-weekly e-newsletter, and updating website content. Print media includes our quarterly magazine, LANDMARKS, along with signage, handouts, brochures, and reports. This position will also carry out contracted work for the Celebrate City Living (CCL) program, a collaborative effort between the City of Rochester and Landmark to promote city residency, showcase Rochester neighborhoods, and provide public education on city housing opportunities.

Preserve NY Grant Workshop - February 27

Want to learn more about the Preserve New York grant program before submitting your pre-application? Join the Landmark Society and the Preservation League of New York State for this in-person workshop for information about eligibility requirements, examples of the types of projects funded, and how to apply. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, February 27th at 5:30pm at Warner Castle (5 Castle Park in Rochester).
Applications for the 2024 Preserve New York grant cycle are due by 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, March 29. All interested applicants must submit a pre-application to receive a full application form. Pre-applications are due by 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, March 22.

The Preserve New York grant program is a partnership between the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the Preservation League of New York State, made possible by NYSCA with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. The Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation generously provides additional funding to support projects in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Women in Preservation and Design Class with Rochester Brainery

Our first Rochester Brainery class of 2024 is open for registration! “Women in Preservation and Design” will take place on Monday, March 11th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at Warner Castle (5 Castle Park in Rochester).

For Women’s History Month in March, celebrate some of the femme figures who have made their mark on our cities, neighborhoods, and small towns. From nationally known figures like Louise B. Bethune, who was American’s first professional female architect, to local icons like Helen Ellwanger, who founded one of the nation’s earliest preservation organizations, the Landmark Society of Western New York, this class will explore the preservationists, urbanists, architects, and other designers who have shaped the built environment.

Save the Date for the 2024 NY Statewide Preservation Conference

The NY Statewide Preservation Conference, presented by Rochester Colonial, is returning to Rochester, April 15th to 17th. The Conference will take place at the Memorial Art Gallery (500 University Avenue), and we have a variety of off-site tours and field sessions in the works. Early Bird Registration will open on February 14th.
