Wood Window Repair Workshop at Silver Lake

July 28-30, 2023

A crash course in wood window restoration, led by Stacy Grinsfelder

UPDATE: Tickets have sold out! Thank you for your interest and we’re sorry if you missed out. Fill out the form below to reserve your spot on the wait list.

Presented by: Stacy Grinsfelder, of Blake Hill House / True Tales from Old Houses; Brad Huber (@ittybittybungalow); The Landmark Society of Western New York; and Silver Lake Institute.

Join Stacy Grinsfelder, wood window restoration educator, at the charming Silver Lake Institute this summer for a crash course in traditional repair and rehabilitation of wooden windows. Silver Lake Institute is a historic lakeside community filled with Victorian-era cottages, located near Letchworth State Park in the Finger Lakes region of New York.

After reviewing lead safe practices and gearing up with the tools of the trade, participants will refurbish one sash from beginning to end – learning how to remove, strip, sand, repair, glaze and paint a window in the historic 1892 Epworth Hall located on the sunny shores of Silver Lake, NY.

Registration also includes optional after-hours events for participants, such as a preservation focused excursion to Letchworth State Park (the “Grand Canyon of the East”); a walking tour of the nearby Village of Perry to sample local businesses and learn how this rural community is revitalizing its Main Street commercial core; well as a lakeside swing band concert and ice cream social.

You’ll need the following supplies:

  1. Lead paint respirator mask – Such as the 3M P100 Mold and Lead Paint Removal Reusable Respirator Mask. You can also upgrade to one in the 3M 6000 series; the key is to have one with the pink lead filters. (The above link is an affiliate link, meaning Stacy will receive a small compensation at no extra cost to you if you purchase through that link).
  2. Eye and ear protection
  3. Gloves (leather or rubber grip)
