Emilia Del Vecchio joined the Landmark Society team in August as a Preservation Planner. She will primarily plan the NYS Preservation Conference, manage our website, curate our social media, and assist with consulting projects and committees. We invited Emilia to share more about her background below. She can be reached at edelvecchio@landmarksociety.org.

Hello! I was born and raised in Rochester, NY and am a class of 2024 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh. I received a BA in Urban Studies and French, a minor in Hindi, and a certificate in Western European Studies with a theme of Art and Architecture in Paris. I have been fascinated by historic architecture since I was 5 years old pointing out the details of my favorite houses to my mom, and I even volunteered with the Landmark Society on home and apartment tours in high school. It feels very full circle to now become a preservationist.

While in college, I interned for 8 months with the City of Pittsburgh as a member of the GIS team. There, I worked on projects focused on affordable housing development, climate equity initiatives, and archival research. My own personal research interests, however, lie more in historic art and architecture. I studied abroad in Paris, and my key paper from that experience, “La Conservation contre la modernisation : un conflit parisien des 20ème et 21ème siècles (Conservation vs. Modernization: A 20th and 21st Century Parisian Conflict),” was awarded the annual Renate Blumenfeld-Kosinski paper prize for excellence in French scholarship.

Outside of work and school, I sing in the Rochester Oratorio Society, am an avid classical pianist, and enjoy running in and exploring my hometown turned city of residence. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, and check out my historic homes Instagram account, @emiliashouses.
