Evan Bobrow joined The Landmark Society team part time in April as the new Communications Coordinator. Evan will work with Landmark staff to curate our social media, manage our website, and layout our quarterly magazine: LANDMARKS. We invited Evan to share more about their background below. They can be reached at ebobrow@landmarksociety.org

Hello! My name is Evan, I am an artist, designer, and arts educator, and I am excited to join The Landmark Society team. I have lived in Rochester for most of my life, and I’ve always been interested in local history and archives. While my role at Landmark is more about design and marketing than preservation, I have an interest in both fields. I completed my BA in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis in 2018, and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Since 2018 I have focused more on my personal art practice, completing artist’s residencies at Alfred University, Visual Studies Workshop, Main Street Arts, Directangle Press, and Flower City Arts Center. During these programs I focused on my body of work the Moonrise Initiative, an ongoing exploration of intuitive world building. It is founded on the thesis “it is our right to create worlds we can escape into.” Moonrise includes maps, videos, prints, interactive activities, and installations. The most recent piece, Moonrise Terminal, was exhibited at SUNY Brockport in the group show Sun & Moon. My next residency is with the Saltonstall Foundation in October 2024, where I will continue this line of work.

In addition to my art practice I started my risograph printing business and community art space, Rathaus Press, in 2021. We offer commission printing, workshops, classes, and studio access to artists in Rochester. Our goal is to make risograph printing and book arts more accessible, with a focus on queer community. I am continuing to work on my press with some exciting upcoming programs to be announced soon!

I am excited to combine my interests in architecture and design/marketing here at The Landmark Society. For any questions regarding our social media, magazine, or website, do not hesitate to reach out to me by email.
