Like every other business and non-profit organization, The Landmark Society’s regular activities and events have been impacted by COVID-19 over the last six months. Although some of our events have been reformatted, rescheduled, or even cancelled, our dedicated staff have continued to carry out our mission to protect the region’s unique architectural heritage.
Here’s a brief rundown of where our events and activities stand for the rest of the 2020:
Ghost Walk
Our annual evening walk down historic Arnold Park will not take place in October 2020. Ghost Walk fans stay tuned – there may be a ghostly opportunity mid-winter!
Inside Downtown Tour
Our annual fall tour inside adapted loft and office spaces has been postponed until Fall 2021.
Preservation Awards
The Preservation Awards ceremony (along with our Annual Meeting) will take place on December 6th in a virtual format. It will be free and open to the general public.
Jubilee
Our annual gala will not take place this year.
NY Statewide Preservation Conference
Originally scheduled for March, 2020, the Conference has been rescheduled and reformatted as a virtual event for December 1-3, 2020. Registration is now open and is just $25!
Travel Tours
All tours for 2020 are cancelled. We are making hopeful plans for 2021, starting in late spring. We miss traveling to historic places with all of you but, of course, safety is the top priority!
Young Urban Preservationists
While our YUPs weren’t able to hold their signature event in July, Bikes Beer & Buildings, they have been partnering with the Rochester Brainery to hold several virtual and outdoor in-person classes. They have two more virtual classes on the schedule for October-November and will be adding a final two walking tour classes before the weather turns to winter!
The YUP Steering Committee also holds its monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month, via zoom. Meetings are open to the public–we encourage you to attend if you’re interested in learning more about the group and seeing if you’d like to get involved. The next meeting is this Wednesday, October 14th at 6 PM. E-mail the YUPs for more info.
Staffing
Our staff continue to operate at full capacity. You can reach us during regular business hours via email or phone. To maintain the safety of our staff and the general public, our offices at Warner Castle remain closed to the public, at this time. Once we can safely re-open, rest assured there will be opportunities to tour the newly rehabbed spaces at Warner Castle!
