Walk the Walk: Encounters with Rochester’s African-American Ancestors FREE public performance
February 11, 2016 @ 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
FreeThe Landmark Society’s Walk the Walk: Encounters with Rochester’s African-American Ancestors has it all – and all are welcome. Music, laughter, joys, sorrows, challenges overcome and inspiration offered – everything you want in an enjoyable evening performance.
We’ll encounter several Ancestors from Rochester’s past during the performance. “Captain Sunfish,” a late 18th century frontiersman and formerly enslaved person will lead us in calling them forth. Sunfish is vividly portrayed by Shawn Dunwoody – those who have experienced his performances know that he will set the tone for a dynamic evening!
The Ancestors include the very famous – Frederick Douglass – as well as those not as well known, such as Bessie Hamm or Anna Murray Douglass. You’ll leave this performance with a better understanding of what people from our past have accomplished – and be inspired by what people of today can achieve.
The performance will be preceded by a special musical performance – and the main event will be enhanced with talented musicians supporting the actors.
Following the performance enjoy the chance to chat with the actors and musicians while enjoying a delicious cookie reception sponsored by The Links, Rochester NY Chapter.
ALL ARE WELCOME – please come out and support these amazing actors!
