Travel Tour: Mohonk Mountain House

August 9, 2015 - August 11, 2015

Travel Tour: Mohonk Mountain House 1

Act II: Mohonk Revisited

After our Hudson Valley trip last year, the sentiment was unanimous – TAKE US BACK TO MOHONK! The magnificent Mohonk Mountain House is a breath-taking castle-like resort hotel set amidst the splendors of the Shawangunk Mountains. Executive Director Wayne Goodman will host our 3-Day/2-Night trip to experience Mohonk Mountain House during the summer.

After a leisurely mid-morning departure on Sunday, 09 August, and a gourmet box lunch on our comfortable motor coach, we will arrive at our destination just in time for afternoon tea and cookies. After we get settled into our rooms, we will gather for dinner as we contemplate the relaxing stay, with two days to explore this world-famous property, with its scenic lake, extensive gardens, miles of walking trails and landmark hotel.

On Monday, 10 August, we will start the day off with an expansive gourmet breakfast buffet. Then you have a full day to explore, relax, swim, hike, shop, sight-see and take in all the wonders that this National Historic Landmark has to offer!

Leave room for the even more impressive lunch buffet and then enjoy complimentary activities which include: 18-Hole Putting Green; 85 Miles of Hiking; Award Winning Gardens & Maze; Barn Museum; Billiards Room; Boating (Canoes, Kayaks, Row Boats, Paddle Boats, & Stand-Up Paddle Boards on Lake Mohonk); Croquet; Daily Guided Hikes; Fishing (complimentary on Lake Mohonk with your own pole; you may rent a pole or buy bait for additional cost from the Boat Dock); Golf (complimentary green fees midweek); Greenhouse; Horseshoes; House History Tours; Indoor Swimming Pool; Lawn Bowling; Nature Walks; Swim Beach; Tennis. Activities which require an additional charge and reservations include: Fly Fishing Lessons; Horseback Riding; Mountain Biking; Rock Climbing; Services at their world class Spa. We will gather again for dinner together and enjoy the beauty and serenity of this world class resort during the remainder of the evening.

Tuesday morning still gives you plenty of time to get in some activities between the breakfast and lunch buffets. Or just sit on the porch and decompress in one of the many rocking chairs. We’ll depart right after lunch to enjoy a bonus stop in the hidden gem of Sharon Springs on the way home to Rochester. Our first stop is Beekman 1802, shopping mecca of the Fabulous Beekman Boys. These guys first got attention with their own reality series and then won The Great Race. They brought national attention to the village of Sharon Springs with innovative, out of the box ideas like giving away 25 % of profits on their Mortgage Lifter Pasta Sauce, that’s $18,147 this year alone, to small farms. But Sharon Springs had a great deal going for it even before the Beekman Boys, like our final stop for dinner, the American Hotel. After an extensive renovation, the American Hotel, built in 1847 and vacant for more than 30 years, re-opened its doors May 23, 2001. With the help of The New York Times and Rachel Ray, the American Hotel has become a favorite getaway to thousands of visitors throughout the year, initiating the original Village wide revitalization.
