Next Saturday: South Wedge Pub Crawl
The YUPs have been busy the last few months adding new bars to our historic bar coaster program and we’re getting ready to launch a new batch of businesses in the South Wedge. Join us for a WHERE THE #&@% AM I? South Wedge Pub Crawl next Saturday, May 21st, 2-4 PM.
What could be better than historic buildings, quirky history, and liquid libations to start your weekend off right? The crawl begins at Tap and Mallet. >>Join the Facebook event.
#ThisPlaceMattersROC–Help us win!
May is Preservation Month and the National Trust for Historic Preservation has started a friendly social media competition amongst young preservationists groups across the country.
Here’s how YOU can help us win: Throughout the month of May, Instagram your heart out by taking pictures of historic (read: old) places in and around Rochester that matter to you. Use the hashtag #ThisPlaceMatters and our YUP-specific tag, #ThisPlaceMattersROC. We also have some fun ThisPlaceMatters swag that you can use. Contact Caitlin for details.
At the end of the May, the group with the most photos on their hashtag will win a This Place Matters themed party. The National Trust will pay for up to $500 worth of drinks, food, and This Place Matters swag to help the winning group raise awareness about a threatened building or highlight a project the group is working on.
Volunteer with the YUPs @ House & Garden Tour
On Saturday afternoon (12:30-4 PM), June 4th, the YUPs are staffing one of the houses on The Landmark Society’s 2016 House & Garden Tour. Get inside access to a historic house in the East Avenue/East Boulevard neighborhood plus free Tour tickets by volunteering for a few hours. The duties are simple: we’ll help control the flow of tourgoers and point out interesting architectural details (our house manager will provide us each with a script). Email Chris Brandt if you’re interested in volunteering.
Save the date: Bikes, Beer & Buildings 2016
The third annual Bikes, Beer & Buildings scavenger hunt is back Saturday, July 23rd! And, not to worry, we heard your feedback from last year and have shortened the course and eased up on the clues. Stay tuned–registration goes live July 2nd.
Help needed: web development
If you have web development experience and want to put your skills to good use, then we have a job for you! A team of YUPs is hard at work recruiting new bars and creating new content for our WHERE THE #&@% AM I? historic bar/pub coaster program. We can still use an extra hand in making a few additions and changes to the website. Email Caitlin Meives for more information. Thanks!
