Heart Bombing with the YUPs
Help us show this former synagogue (and other buildings!) some love! Starting at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 13th, we’ll meet up at the Lincoln Branch Library (851 Joseph Ave.) to make Valentines for the former B’Nai Israel Synagogue on Joseph Ave. YUPs, kids of all ages, and families are invited to attend–we’ll provide a brief overview of what heart bombing and preservation are all about then we’ll hand over the valentines-making supplies. With valentines in hand, we’ll walk down to the former synagogue for a photo shoot.
After we heart bomb the synagogue, any remaining YUPs are invited to help us heart bomb a few other sites around the city.
We’ll provide crafting supplies but feel free to bring your own too; we want to make sure we have enough for the kids.
Behind the Scenes: Harro East
You may have danced in the ballroom or worked up a sweat in the athletic club, but did you know that this 1930s gem went from an abandoned building in the 1970s to the thriving mixed-use building we know today? Come take a behind-the-scenes tour to see how the former home of the Jewish Young Men’s and Women’s Association has transformed while continuing to serve as an entertainment and commercial staple of the Rochester landscape.
>>Reserve your spot here (tour is free but space is limited)
Still want to talk preservation? Join us for a drink at Abilene Bar & Lounge after the tour (153 Liberty Pole Way, Rochester, NY 14604)! No cover for tour participants.
Wednesday, February 24th | 5:45 pm sharp! | Harro East, 155 North Chestnut St. Rochester, NY 14604 | Registration required (the tour is free but space is limited!)
Help needed: web development
If you have web development experience and want to put your skills to good use, then we have a job for you! A team of YUPs is hard at work recruiting new bars and creating new content for our WHERE THE #&@% AM I? historic bar/pub coaster program. We can still use an extra hand in making a few additions and changes to the website. Email Caitlin Meives for more information. Thanks!
