Genesee Valley Rural Revitalization Grant: Round 2 Awards Announcement

In partnership with the NYS Office of the Governor and NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, the Landmark Society is pleased to announce the recipients of Round 2 funding through the Genesee Valley Rural Revitalization (GVRR) Grant Program!

This program, funded by the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants Program through the Historic Preservation Fund, administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior, aims to support historic restoration and rehabilitation projects in our rural Finger Lakes and Western New York communities. Additional funding was provided by the Rochester Area Community Foundation. The funding awarded in Round 2 exhausts the funding currently available. However, we hope to apply for and receive another Paul Bruhn grant in the future. Over 50 applications were received in Round 2 with more than $2 million in grant requests. Eleven projects have been selected and a total of $462,230 has been awarded in Round 2.  Click the link below to read about all of the awardees.

Crash Courses in Architectural History with Rochester Brainery

Love old buildings but have no idea what you’re looking at? In these two upcoming classes at Rochester Brainery, students will get the rundown of American architectural styles from the Colonial era through present day, with a focus on local and regional examples. The February 8th class will cover the 19th century, and the February 15th class will cover the 20th century (you can take one or both!) Learn the names of important architectural styles common in the northeast; some basic architectural terminology; and how to approximately date the buildings you see every day. Instructors are members of the Young Urban Preservationists, an affiliate group of The Landmark Society.

It's not too late for end-of-year giving!

As the year comes to an end, we want to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone that has supported our organization through memberships, ticket purchases, donations, and our ROC the Day campaign in November.  We continue to experience revenue loss compared to pre-Covid levels, so this year’s Annual Fund is especially important.  We hope you’ll consider The Landmark Society in your end-of-year giving so that we may continue our meaningful work across the region. Even a small contribution makes a difference when it comes to protecting and promoting our unique resources.  Thank you for your generous support, and have a safe and happy New Year!
