Cocktails & Carburetors - Friday, October 7th

Cocktails & Carburetors is coming up soon!  Make plans to attend the Opening Night Party on Friday evening, October 7th at FLX Auto Storage. FLX Auto Storage, located in Macedon, is a high-end storage facility for vehicles including a social lounge. Founded in 2018 by Jim Swetman as a place that would combine his interest in racing with vehicles storage, there will be a number of vintage vehicles at the facility for the party. The party will have catering by Betty Klein, music by Mystic Stew, a silent auction, and plenty of cocktails and great conversation. Guests are encouraged to drive their collector cars so all attendees can enjoy them in the parking area.

Included in your $95 ticket price will be a tour of private garages on Saturday, October 8th. Take a self-guided tour of several private garages and car collections from 10am to 4pm (a map will be provided to ticketholders at the Friday night party).

This promises to be a very special weekend to view cars that may not normally be accessible and to meet with their owners. We hope you’ll join us!

2022 NY Statewide Preservation Conference

Landmark Society staff just returned from the 2022 NY Statewide Preservation Conference in Syracuse.  Over the course of three days, we learned, listened, and shared. We took walking tours of the H.A. Boyer Factory Complex, Downtown Syracuse, West Onondaga Street, historic Oakwood Cemetery, and the Gustav Stickley House.  We attended sessions on topics ranging from updating National Register nominations to researching marginalized history; from taking action on climate change to preserving intangible heritage; and from preserving Great Camp Santanoni in the Adirondacks to saving historic Hudson Valley truss bridges. We were enthralled and challenged by our Keynote speaker, Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, a scientist, decorated professor, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.  We reconnected with colleagues we haven’t seen in years, and met preservation-minded individuals doing incredible work all over our state. We couldn’t have asked for a better conference location than the historic Marriott Syracuse Downtown, a preservation success story that made for a gorgeous backdrop to this year’s events.

We are so grateful to all of the staff, volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and partners that made this year’s conference so successful.  Were you there?  Please take this brief survey to give us your feedback!

Save the Date for the Landmark Society's Annual Jubilee!

This year’s Jubilee will take place at the historic Wilder Room on East Avenue. This beautiful space, named after former Rochester Mayor, A. Carter Wilder, was a twentieth century hot spot for the affluent members of the city’s society. Once the residence of Mayor Wilder, East End’s Rochester Club was established in 1860. The exclusive club was membership-based and known for its glamorous private events. In 1911 the Club was renovated to include a grand ballroom lit by 4 crystal chandeliers, still there to admire at this year’s Jubilee.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 3rd, 2022 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. There will be live entertainment, a full bar, delicious hors d’oeuvres, a plated dinner, and exciting silent auction experiences. Tickets will be available for purchase starting October 5th – November 7th on our website!
