Ghost Walk--this weekend only!

25 years wasn’t enough, so we are returning with year 26 of this nighttime guided walking tour. This time we have new stories and we are reviving some of the ghosts that haven’t been seen at the event in over 20 years.

This award-winning experience leads you down an historic street, where you encounter actors portraying Rochesterians from our past. Each has an actual event from our history to relate, up close and personal. Of course since its October – you know it’s going to be the darker, macabre side of history. This is a great event for those who love theatre, history, Halloween – or all of the above.

Friday & Saturday, October 25 & 26 | 6:30-8:30 PM | Advance tickets: $15 members, $22 non-members

Conference session proposals due tomorrow!

We are now accepting proposals for educational sessions at the NY Statewide Preservation Conference! For the first time, the Conference will be in downtown Syracuse, March 26-28.

Priorities for 2020:

  • Sessions that include diverse panelists/speakers, including people of color, women, LGBTQ, and youth. All panels should strive to be inclusive and represent diverse perspectives.
  • Topics that address underrepresented communities and current issues regarding social justice and equity as they relate to historic preservation (i.e. gentrification, intangible heritage, non-traditional or new preservation practices)
  • Topics that explicitly address ways in which preservation as a movement and a professional field can become more inclusive and representative.

You do not need to be a preservation professional to share your story. Whether you are a grassroots community activist, an urban planner, a non-profit organization, an architect, a neighborhood group, a developer, property owner, or a municipality, we want to hear from you! We are looking for a diverse range of topics that include everything from neighborhood advocacy and small town revitalization to complex tax credit rehab projects and place-based event planning.

Proposals are due by Friday, October 25th at midnight.

Have an idea for a session but need more time to get your proposal together? Email Conference organizer, Caitlin Meives, to discuss.

We want your feedback!

We are in the process of conducting a feasibility study to determine if and how The Landmark Society could launch a Preservation Revolving Fund. Many preservation organizations throughout the country utilize different types of revolving funds to help save at-risk historic properties. (To learn more about revolving funds, check out this video).

As part of the feasibility study, we’re looking for feedback from our  members and the community–that means you! Please click the button below to take a quick, 14-question survey. Thank you!
