Inside Downtown Tour: High Falls & Beyond

This year’s tour will take us to High Falls and adjacent neighborhoods – you can think of this region as the cradle of Rochester, since it’s the area that nurtured a village, transforming it into a city. You will see the ancestral “roots” of buildings that served industrial purposes and now house loft apartments, high tech companies and more. Tickets are on sale now!

Park Ave. Pop-Up Walking Tour tickets on sale now!

In less than two weeks, on Wednesday September 19th only, we’re partnering with our Young Urban Preservationists to offer a special one-time walking tour of the Park Avenue neighborhood! We’ll explore the architecture and history of one of Rochester’s most iconic neighborhoods. As a special bonus–we’re even getting you inside two incredible private homes and two Park Ave. businesses!  Tours will be led by The Landmark Society’s preservation experts, Cynthia Howk and Caitlin Meives, and by local architecture and history experts from the YUPs.

We hope you’ll join us for this one-time event! Ticket sales support the Park Avenue Historic District Project.

Cocktails & Carburetors returns this month

Now in its fifth year, our Cocktails & Carburetors two-day event combines vintage and special interest autos with tours of private garages and car collections.

On Friday, September 21st from 6:30 to 9:00, you’ll attend the opening cocktail party at Horsepower Motorworks in Victor. Stroll among the many cars, both under restoration and on display, while enjoying music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction.  You’re invited to drive your special interest car for preferred parking. While there, pick up your program for the self-guided tour on Saturday, September 22nd from 10:00 to 4:00 – this will be similar to a house tour, but focused on garages and their fascinating contents!

Preservation Grant Fund deadline

The Landmark Society’s Preservation Grant Fund program offers funds for preliminary design and planning studies to help make positive improvements to at-risk buildings. The grant does not fund bricks and mortar repairs. The program was initially funded through a bequest from Elizabeth (Libby) Stewart. Libby was a longtime Landmark Society staff member who was dedicated to the revitalization of neighborhoods and historic structures. Applications are now available for the next round of funding. The application deadline is October 24, 2018. Visit our website to learn more.
