Celebrate Olmsted’s birthday!

Each year, The Landmark Society’s Olmsted Sub-Committee, of which the Highland Park Conservancy is a member, celebrates the birthday of renowned landscape architect and designer of Rochester’s own park system, Frederick Law Olmsted. This year, you can join the celebration by attending the Conservancy’s free Annual Meeting on April 26th. Tupper Thomas, a renowned national expert in parks who restored Olmsted’s Prospect Park in Brooklyn to its original glory, will be the featured speaker at the Highland Park Conservancy Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Ms. Thomas has visited most of the Olmsted parks in the United States, and she is especially pleased to visit Rochester to have the opportunity to explore our Olmsted parks system. Join us to hear about her experiences, and to celebrate the legacy Olmsted has given to our community. Light refreshments will be served following the meeting to celebrate Olmsted’s birthday.

Wednesday, April 26 | 7:00 PM | Rochester Academy of Medicine, 1441 East Ave. | FREE and open to the public!

Statewide Preservation Conference sells out again!

Once again, the Preservation Conference was a big hit—selling out with nearly 370 attendees from around the state. We were honored to welcome Amy Nicole Swift, principal and owner of Building Hugger in Detroit, to Rochester as our Keynote Speaker. Amy spoke about the importance of expanding training and employment opportunities for women and young people in the traditional trades.

After a full day of conversation and learning at a wide range of breakout sessions and networking with fellow colleagues and community advocates, attendees were able to wind down at a special Preservation Partners Party at the Genesee Country Village and Museum. Thank you to GCV&M for opening up just for us! Be sure to visit their site throughout the spring and summer.
