Travel Tour: An insider’s trip to New Orleans

french-quarter

The travel tour for those who want to experience New Orleans like a local. In the Big Easy, mornings don’t start at the crack of dawn, the streetcar is the desired mode of transportation, and the Sazerac is the cocktail of choice. Plenty of free time to relax by the salt water pool at the charming Le Richelieu hotel, admire the amazing architecture in every direction you look and stop into the shops, bars and restaurants you’ll pass on leisurely strolls through the French Quarter. Don’t worry, all the hallmarks of the Crescent City are included like Preservation Hall, Jazz brunch at the Commander’s Palace and an Architectural Bus Tour by our colleagues at the Preservation Resource Center. And there will be optional tours of Art Galleries, St. Louis Cemetery No.1 and a pub crawl In Search of the Best Sazerac, if you prefer to explore with a group. With a side trip to St. Francisville that includes plantation tours (one haunted!), this is a trip you won’t want to miss. Limited spots available so sign up soon.

Warm up at Tequila Tuesday

tequilatuesday_02-2017

Ever wonder what Anejo means? Still think tequila is only for body shots? Join us for the first Tequila Tuesday, learn more about this fine spirit and support three great Rochester organizations! We’re partnering with two fellow non-profit organizations, Rochester Contemporary Art Center and Farley’s Friends, to bring you an evening escape from the cold.

How it works:

  • Bring yourself and a friend or two.
  • Donate $15 or more.
  • Receive a ticket for Tequila tasting and learn more about several different tequilas.
  • Hang out with supporters and friends of these three non-profits.

All proceeds equally support The Landmark Society, RoCo, and Farley’s Friends.

Tuesday, February 7th | 6-9 PM | The Daily Refresher, 293 Alexander St., Rochester | $15 at the door | Click here to view the Facebook event

Calling all writers and old house lovers!

homework_11-23-16

If you like exploring historic houses that are filled with character, we have the volunteer job for you! Our weekly HomeWork column in CITY Newspaper features quality homes (most of them are older homes but some are new construction too!) for sale throughout the city of Rochester and occasionally in surrounding towns and villages. Each week, these columns are written by a dedicated and passionate team of volunteers and we’re looking to add to this elite group.

Depending on the number of columns you want to write each year, the time commitment can be as small or large as you like. Each column runs approximately 450 words. We send you a short list of houses that are on the market; you select a house; contact the listing agent; visit the house; and write the column. It’s as simple as that!
