Greetings fellow preservationists and happy spring (finally)!!
It’s been awhile since you’ve heard from us but trust that we’ve been working hard over the winter, organizing and planning events for the spring and summer. Most importantly, we are putting the final touches on our very first Strategic Plan and will be releasing the results soon! At our four-year-mark, we are excited to move the YUPs forward and become a bit more organized so that we can better serve the greater Rochester community. We hope you will be a part of our future. If you haven’t come to a YUP event or meeting in awhile, now is the perfect time to re-engage. Reach out to us at any time if you’re looking for ways to get involved.

This Saturday: Pop-up picnic under the magnolias
It’s May. Spring is finally here. And the Oxford St. magnolias are getting ready to pop. So we’re starting a new YUP tradition with our second annual Pop-Up Picnic Under the Magnolias. Join us this Saturday, May 5th, starting at 1:00 PM for an impromptu gathering under the trees. We’ll be camped out in the median on Oxford, at the intersection with Harper St. Bring a blanket, a snack to share, a snack of your own, or a (non-alcoholic) beverage. Crash Course in American Architectural History I and II
May 15th & 22nd, 7:00-8:30 PM
Love old buildings but have no idea what you’re looking at? In this one hour class, we’ll give you the rundown of American architectural styles from the Colonial era through the 19th century, with a focus on local and regional examples. Learn the names of important architectural styles common in the northeast; some basic architectural terminology; and how to approximately date the buildings you see every day. This class can be taken on its own if you’re not a fan of mid-century modern architecture or you can continue the fun with Crash Course in American Architectural History II – 20th Century.
