Please join us on Monday, October 7th at the Perinton Town Hall for the next installment in our FREE Workshop series.
Beyond the Public Meeting: Case Studies from Around the Region
While the primary duties of a Preservation Commission are to review applications for landmark designation and perform design review, the reality is that new designations are at a standstill across the country and many commissions in our region have few designated landmarks for which to review applications for Certificates of Appropriateness. So, what can your local Historic Preservation Commission do outside the official public meetings to carry out your mission and protect your community’s historic assets?
There are many creative ways a Commission can interest the public in their community’s historic resources and preservation planning, including special exhibits, walking tours, newspaper articles, restoration workshops, photo inventories of buildings, and National Register nominations. We’ll hear case studies from three different Commissions in western New York. You’ll then have a chance to break up into groups, learn from your peers, and brainstorm new ideas for your community.
