It’s that time of year, when pundits, news outlets, and TV shows look back on the year in review, when  Facebook and Twitter feeds are filled with best-of lists. So why not jump on the bandwagon? Click here to see our look back at 2016 with our Top 12 (we couldn’t limit ourselves to just 10!) preservation successes.

Thank you to everyone who supports our work; together we can make a difference in communities across WNY. You can continue to support successes in your community by donating to our 2016 Annual Fund.

Five to Revive updates

Progress for another of our Five to Revive properties! The Clarendon Historical Society just received a $10,000 grant from the Orleans County / Curtis Foundation to help in the restoration of the 1894 Hillside Cemetery Chapel, which was on our 2014 list. This building will grace our landscape and community life for years to come, thanks to this support!

And, in case you  missed the news, the  rehabilitation of the Eastman Dental Dispensary was one of five projects to receive a 2016 Preservation Award from the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation in Albany earlier this month. A well-deserved congratulations to Home Leasing, Edgemere Development, and the entire team that worked on this most important project!

An insider’s trip to New Orleans

french-quarter

The travel tour for those who want to experience New Orleans like a local. In the Big Easy, mornings don’t start at the crack of dawn, the streetcar is the “desired” mode of transportation, and the Sazerac is the cocktail of choice. Plenty of free time to relax by the salt water pool at the charming Le Richelieu hotel, admire the amazing architecture in every direction you look and stop into the shops, bars and restaurants you’ll pass on leisurely strolls through the French Quarter. Don’t worry, all the hallmarks of the Crescent City are included like Preservation Hall, Jazz brunch at the Commander’s Palace and an Architectural Bus Tour by our colleagues at the Preservation Resource Center. And there will be optional tours of Art Galleries, St. Louis Cemetery No.1 and a pub crawl In Search of the Best Sazerac, if you prefer to explore with a group. With a side trip to St. Francisville that includes plantation tours (one haunted!), this is a trip you won’t want to miss. Limited spots available so sign up soon.
